Shehu Dismisses Jonathan’s Boko Haram Negotiator Claim

Garba Shehu, former media aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari, has refuted ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s claim that Boko Haram once nominated Buhari as the Federal Government’s negotiator.

Shehu described Jonathan’s statement as an attempt to “rewrite history” ahead of the 2027 elections, urging the former president to present a more convincing narrative to Nigerians.

Jonathan made the remark during the public presentation of SCARS, a book authored by former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor (retd.), in Abuja, claiming the insurgents suggested Buhari’s name after his administration initiated dialogue committees.

Reacting, Shehu argued that Jonathan’s government worsened insecurity during its tenure and recalled accusations that the PDP sponsored a political wing of Boko Haram.

“To succeed in 2027, Dr Jonathan should find a better story to tell Nigerians,” Shehu stated.
