ICPC, NITDA Partner to Curb Corruption in Government IT Projects

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) have pledged closer collaboration to enforce compliance with guidelines for Information Technology (IT) projects undertaken by federal government agencies.

The commitment was made during a courtesy visit to the ICPC headquarters in Abuja by NITDA Director-General/CEO, Mr. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, and his management team, led by the Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN.

Dr. Aliyu reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between the two agencies, noting that ICPC would continue to provide support to NITDA in promoting secure and efficient digital services across government institutions.

“ICPC and NITDA have maintained cordial relations for a long time. When I assumed office as Chairman, my first official visit was to NITDA because I believed that for ICPC to undergo digital transformation, NITDA’s support was essential. Since then, we have implemented most of our agreements while ensuring compliance with ICT regulations,” Aliyu said.

He praised NITDA’s efforts to ensure IT systems in government serve their intended purpose, describing a functional digital environment as critical to effective service delivery.

Mr. Abdullahi, for his part, said the visit was aimed at enlisting ICPC’s support to ensure government institutions comply with IT investment guidelines. He highlighted NITDA’s ongoing initiatives, including the One Government Digital Services policy, certification of IT system builders, and quality assurance mechanisms to guarantee IT systems meet required standards.

Abdullahi added that NITDA plans to work with ICPC to develop websites for all local government areas nationwide, a move aimed at promoting digital transparency and accountability in grassroots governance.

Both agencies agreed to set up a joint committee to develop a framework that would guide their collaboration and ensure tangible results.
