Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has warned permanent secretaries that any breach of civil service rules during the emergency rule in the state will attract strict accountability.
The governor gave the warning during the swearing-in of Austin Ezekiel-Hart as a permanent secretary at the Executive Chambers of Government House, Port Harcourt. Fubara described the appointment as merit-based, noting Ezekiel-Hart’s professionalism and integrity in the civil service.
“You will be held accountable for every action. I have never instructed any permanent secretary to bypass due process, and I expect all officers to maintain high standards,” Fubara said.
He urged the new appointee to report any pressure to act against civil service rules, with evidence, emphasizing that his administration will prioritize results over rhetoric.
The event was attended by permanent secretaries, the State Head of Service, and eight commissioners retained after a Supreme Court judgment that affected several members of the State Executive Council.
Analysts say Fubara’s warning underscores his administration’s focus on discipline, professionalism, and transparency in the state civil service.
