U-20 World Cup: Flying Eagles Edge Saudi Arabia to Keep Knockout Hopes Alive

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles produced a thrilling 3-2 win over Saudi Arabia on Friday to strengthen their chances of advancing to the Round of 16 at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The tournament debutants took the lead in the 10th minute through midfielder Nasiru Salihu, who netted Nigeria’s first goal of the competition. Saudi Arabia responded in the 21st minute with Amar Alyuhaybi restoring parity.

Not to be outdone, Nigeria regained the advantage before halftime as Amos Ochoche struck seven minutes from the break, sending the Flying Eagles into the interval leading 2-1.

The second half mirrored the first, with Saudi Arabia leveling once more through Talal Haji in the 51st minute. However, Nigeria clinched a dramatic win in stoppage time when captain Daniel Bameyi calmly converted a penalty in the 94th minute.

The victory keeps Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive, with a favourable result against Colombia on Monday set to secure their place in the Round of 16.
