Strike over: Makinde secures truce with LAUTECH nurses
Nurses and midwives at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, have suspended their strike following the intervention of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
Patriotic Insights News reports that the health workers, who had embarked on the industrial action in September over unpaid promotion arrears, minimum wage arrears, and welfare-related demands, called off the strike after the governor’s decisive moves.
During a visit to the hospital on Wednesday, Makinde approved an additional N35 million monthly subvention, directed phased settlement of arrears, and ordered the integration of non-staff personnel into the hospital’s workforce. He also pledged to set up a Governing Council for the hospital and complete the LAUTECH Annexe in Oyo before the end of his administration.
In a statement signed by Unit Chairman, Ojewumi Olutayo, and Unit Secretary, Adedokun Foluwake, the nurses hailed Makinde as a “compassionate and visionary leader” and confirmed that full services would resume immediately.
They added that his intervention not only addressed their immediate demands but also created a foundation for long-term stability within the institution.
