EiE tackles Osun LG crisis with #myLGA project

Enough is Enough (EiE) Nigeria has expanded its #myLGA project to Osun State as part of efforts to confront the protracted local government crisis and restore grassroots accountability.

The initiative, supported by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) through the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, had earlier taken root in Ekiti State.

In Osun, EiE will partner with Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) to drive civic engagement through weekly radio programmes in English and Yoruba, stakeholder dialogues, and community sensitisation campaigns.

The project will involve critical institutions such as the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the House of Assembly, civil society organisations, traditional rulers, market associations, and the media, to strengthen citizens’ voices and ensure government responsiveness.

Deputy Executive Director (Programmes) of EiE Nigeria, Ufuoma Nnamdi-Udeh, said the breakdown at the grassroots in Osun highlights the fragility of governance when the tier closest to the people is weakened.

“With the #myLGA Project, we want to prove that citizens are not powerless. By creating avenues for dialogue, civic education and accountability, we can mainstream local issues and put communities at the centre of governance,” she said.

EiE’s Senior Media Associate, Akindeji Aromaye, stressed that elections should not be seen as an end but a starting point for real citizen participation.

“The #myLGA Project in Osun is about connecting the dots between voting and everyday governance. What truly matters is whether communities feel the impact of transparency, accountability and service delivery after the ballots are counted,” he said.

EiE explained that the project’s multi-stakeholder, partnership-driven approach is designed to make it locally owned, widely understood, and replicable across other states.
