Plateau Government Rejects ‘Fake’ Open Letter to President Tinubu
The Plateau State government has distanced itself from an open letter allegedly sent to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by a group calling itself the Plateau United Front (PUF), purportedly signed by one Sargwak Haruna, claiming to be the group’s president.
The controversial letter triggered a political spat between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with each party accusing the other of being behind what was seen as a derogatory communication to the President ahead of his planned visit to Plateau for the burial of the late mother of APC National Chairman, Prof. Yilwatda Nentawe.
Dr. Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, described the group as faceless, amorphous, and unrecognized by the state government, noting that it is not a registered organization.
Bere labeled the open letter as “ill-motivated, mischievous, and not representative of the governor, the government, or any patriotic Plateau citizen committed to peace, unity, and mutual respect.”
He added that the tone and content of the letter reveal the desperation of its sponsors, contrasting sharply with the civil and respectful manner in which Governor Mutfwang engages with the Presidency and other eminent Nigerians.
“Governor Mutfwang has consistently acknowledged and appreciated the remarkable interventions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the Federal Government in addressing Plateau State’s security challenges,” Bere said.
He further stressed that the governor has publicly recognized the contributions of Plateau sons and daughters appointed to key federal positions and has always urged them to prioritize peace, unity, and service above partisan interests.
The governor’s spokesman urged the public to disregard the malicious fabrications contained in the so-called open letter and called on security agencies to investigate and unmask the authors and their sponsors to face the full weight of the law.
“Governor Caleb Mutfwang, together with law-abiding citizens of Plateau, looks forward to warmly welcoming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the state at any time,” Bere concluded.
