PDP: Tinubu’s APC Driving Nigeria to Ruin
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a swipe at the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing President Bola Tinubu’s administration of plunging Nigeria into poverty, insecurity and economic collapse.
PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, who spoke on ARISE TV last night, declared that Nigerians had woken up to what he called the “false promises” of the ruling party after years of hardship.
> “It’s a very sad narrative for the APC at this time when Nigeria is at the receiving end of economic downturn, political mistrust, civil unrest, untold insecurity and rooftop inflation. I don’t think there’s any Nigerian left to believe in the APC today,” Abdullahi said.
He argued that while Nigerians might have been “hoodwinked” between 2015 and 2019, the reality by 2023 had shown that APC could not be trusted with governance.
According to him, PDP left office at a time when Nigeria was the third fastest-growing economy in the world and the fastest in Africa.
> “That was a time Nigerians could literally call Nigeria a country and one they were proud of,” he added.
The PDP spokesman said the party’s concession of power in 2015 was a milestone in Nigeria’s democracy, contrasting it with what he described as APC’s “desperation” to cling to power in 2019, 2023 and ahead of 2027.
On security, Abdullahi said APC had failed in its campaign promise to restore peace, noting that insecurity during PDP’s tenure was restricted to Boko Haram in parts of the Northeast.
> “At the time we lost power, there was nothing to describe as banditry. Nobody knew that word, except if you read it in the dictionary. Today, that is what we are contending with,” he said.
He linked the recent killing of ARISE anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu in Abuja to the government’s alleged failure on security, lamenting that Nigeria now carries the tag of “poverty capital of the world.”
But APC chieftain, Niyi Akinsiju, countered the PDP, insisting that Nigeria was making steady progress under Tinubu. He said the administration’s reforms had strengthened the economy, boosted non-oil exports and positioned the country for long-term prosperity.
“The fundamentals of the economy are getting stronger. International rating agencies have endorsed these reforms with a vote of confidence in the President’s policies,” Akinsiju said.
