Jonathan’s Legacy Haunts PDP, APC Hits Back at George
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back at former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, over his claim that former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration outperformed those of late President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Thursday, APC Lagos spokesman, Seye Oladejo, described George’s remarks as “laughable” and an attempt at “desperate revisionism” aimed at misleading Nigerians.
George, speaking in an interview with Arise Television, argued that economic hardships under the current administration—rising inflation, naira depreciation, and escalating food prices—proved Jonathan’s tenure was superior.
Responding, Oladejo accused George of glorifying a record that Nigerians remember for corruption, mismanagement of oil revenues, insecurity, and impunity. He said Buhari, despite challenges, restored the integrity of the armed forces, strengthened anti-corruption campaigns, and revived abandoned infrastructure projects, while Tinubu is addressing structural decay left behind by the PDP through reforms such as subsidy removal, foreign exchange liberalisation, food security measures, and infrastructural renewal.
The APC spokesman also targeted George personally, describing him as inconsistent and driven by personal interest. “Chief George has made a career of political flip-flopping—praising and attacking leaders depending on which side of his bread is buttered. His inconsistency exposes a lack of principle and patriotism,” he said.
Oladejo challenged George to provide evidence of his leadership impact within the PDP in Lagos, a party he described as “perpetually in crisis and only active during elections to share crumbs of election funds.”
He added, “George’s defence of Jonathan only reminds Nigerians why the PDP was roundly rejected at the polls. Jonathan’s tenure was one of waste and failure; Buhari stabilised the nation, and Tinubu is driving reforms. Nigeria is in safe hands.”
The APC advised George to retire from constant political commentary, noting that Nigerians have moved on from the “nightmare” of PDP misrule.
