Akinlalu Massacre: Osun APC Alleges Adeleke Killed Youths, Looted LG Funds

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has hit out at Governor Ademola Adeleke over the alleged extra-judicial killings of residents in Akinlalu, Ife-North Local Government Area, accusing the state government of using local government allocations to cover up the killings.

In a press statement made available to journalists in Oshogbo today by Osun APC Director of Media and Publicity, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the party described the killings as “tragic, avoidable, and deeply disturbing,” insisting that the governor had failed to act to protect the citizens.

The statement said residents of Akinlalu woke up on October 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day, to the shocking news that several youths had been gunned down, allegedly by operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps acting under instructions from their controversial commander, Kunle Omoyele, a retired police officer.

“The Amotekun Corps tried to mislead the public by claiming their operatives were ambushed by armed hoodlums. This is false. Akinlalu is a peace-loving community with no history of harboring criminals,” the APC said.

The Nigeria Police, Osun State Command, confirmed that Amotekun operatives retaliated after two pump-action guns were allegedly taken from their men by unknown persons. During the operation, bullets reportedly injured Adeagbo Kadijat, 22; Oke-Ila Oyebamiji, 60; and Fayomi Toheeb, 19, while three others allegedly lost their lives, with their bodies allegedly taken away by Amotekun officials.

The APC accused Governor Adeleke of ignoring the tragedy and instead attempting to divert attention by mobilizing supporters to circulate false information regarding local government allocations. The party demanded that the governor refund N84 billion it claims was spent from federal allocations due to the 30 local governments in the state.

The statement also alleged mismanagement of federal TETFUND and UBEC funds, as well as unaccounted visits of government officials to the EFCC over alleged contract scandals.

The APC vowed to continue as a responsible opposition at the state level while administering quality governance at the grassroots, noting that its chairmen and councillors were reinstated by the Court of Appeal on February 10, 2025, and duly recognized by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, FAAC, and other statutory bodies.

The party urged the PDP-led state government to accept its new role as opposition in the local governments and act responsibly until the end of its tenure in 2028.
