Kwara Vows No Sanctuary for Bandits, Kidnappers — AbdulRazaq

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has pledged that criminals, including kidnappers, will find no safe haven in the state as his administration intensifies efforts to safeguard lives and property.

The governor made the declaration on Tuesday night after presiding over a State Security Council meeting at Ahmadu Bello House, Ilorin. The meeting was convened to coordinate state and federal security agencies in response to the recent attack in Oke Ode.

Following the attack, Governor AbdulRazaq promptly briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, requesting additional federal deployment to tackle the bandits’ hideouts. He revealed that the Army Headquarters has relocated the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2nd Division to Ilorin to bolster security operations.

“The combined forces of the Army, DSS, and Police launched an offensive around Baba Sango along the Kwara–Kogi border on Monday night, neutralising about 15 armed bandits. The operation continued yesterday,” the governor said.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, made the statement available to journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday, emphasizing that the administration remained committed to supporting security agencies in keeping every community safe. “We will fight insecurity with every resource at our disposal. Kwara will not be a hiding place for criminals,” he said.

Governor AbdulRazaq further assured residents: “To any criminal who seeks to destabilise the peace in Kwara, you may run, but you cannot escape justice. Kwara belongs to its people, and their peace will be defended.”

The governor’s statement signals a renewed commitment to clamp down on banditry and strengthen security coordination across both Kwara North and South.
