Kano Govt Suspends Scholar Over Alleged Blasphemy
Kano State Government has suspended Islamic scholar Lawal Abubakar Triumph from all teaching and preaching activities pending investigation into alleged blasphemy.
Triumph is accused of making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad (SAW), the Kano Shura Council, the state’s religious regulatory body, confirmed on Wednesday.
Shehu Wada-Sagagi, the council’s secretary, said the allegations were carefully reviewed through audio and video evidence. “Malam Lawan is suspended until investigations are concluded and he presents his defence,” Wada-Sagagi said.
He added that unverified allegations were discarded while documented evidence was considered. The cleric will be formally invited to defend himself before a report with recommendations is submitted to the state government.
This is not Kano’s first blasphemy probe. In 2021, Abduljabbar Nasiru-Kabara, a sheikh, was sent for a mental evaluation after facing charges of blasphemy against the Prophet.
