Kaduna, Edo Police Crack Down on Illegal Tinted Vehicles from Thursday
Kaduna and Edo State police commands have announced that they will commence strict enforcement of vehicle tinted-glass permit regulations from Thursday, warning that defaulters risk impoundment and prosecution.
Mansir Hassan, Kaduna police spokesperson, said all motorists with factory-fitted or aftermarket tinted glasses must register and obtain the required permits to avoid penalties. The registration process involves an online application via https://possap.gov.ng, followed by physical verification at the Kaduna command headquarters, where vehicle particulars, proof of ownership, and tinted glass specifications must be presented.
Kaduna Police Commissioner Rabiu Muhammad reassured law-abiding citizens that the exercise aims to maintain a safe and secure environment, urging public cooperation.
In Edo, Police Commissioner Agbonika stated that vehicles with tinted glasses lacking valid NPF permits would be impounded. Permits can be obtained online or at the State Intelligence Department office in Benin City. He also reiterated the ban on SPY number plates, warning that vehicles without registered plates, with covered plates, or with fake/unapproved numbers would be seized and their owners prosecuted.
“This enforcement is designed to enhance public safety and curb crimes often committed using unregistered or unauthorised vehicles,” Agbonika said. “We appeal to the public for maximum cooperation. This exercise is for the overall safety of everyone.”
Motorists are urged to comply with the regulations to avoid unnecessary embarrassment, while citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activities or professional misconduct by officers.
