EFCC Gets Major Boost as Rivers Judiciary Vows Unwavering Support
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has received a significant boost as the Rivers State Judiciary pledged continued support for the Commission’s fight against corruption.
Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi, made the pledge yesterday while receiving the newly appointed Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC, Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate, Assistant Commander ACE1 Hassan Saidu, during a courtesy visit in Port Harcourt.
Justice Amadi, who previously served as one of the judges designated to hear EFCC cases, described the relationship between the judiciary and the Commission as “cordial” and vowed to strengthen it during his tenure.
“The Rivers State Judiciary will always do its best to maintain a strong relationship with EFCC. Visits like yours today go a long way in enhancing this collaboration,” he said.
Highlighting a key challenge, Justice Amadi noted that EFCC staff are overburdened as they prosecute cases at both the High Court and Federal High Court levels. He called for the appointment of additional judges to expedite EFCC cases.
ACE1 Saidu, on his part, expressed gratitude to the judiciary, emphasizing its central role in ensuring the success of anti-corruption efforts.
“We are here to formally announce my assumption of office and to thank the judiciary for its vital support. Without your cooperation, our efforts would be in vain. We hope this partnership will continue to strengthen as we work to sanitize the country,” he said.
The meeting underscores the strategic alliance between the judiciary and EFCC, signalling a more coordinated and robust approach to combating financial crimes in Rivers State.
