CJN introduces online portal for Notary Public applications

Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Motomori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, has approved the commencement of online applications for legal practitioners seeking appointment as Notaries Public.

The Supreme Court described the initiative as a landmark step aimed at revolutionising the appointment process and promoting efficiency in the judiciary.

A statement yesterday by the Court’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Dr. Festus Akande, said qualified lawyers across the country can now submit their applications digitally through a newly created portal, https://notary.gov.ng.

According to the statement, the move reflects the judiciary’s commitment to digital innovation, transparency and improved accessibility for the legal community.

It reads in part: “This pivotal decision underscores the judiciary’s unwavering commitment to embracing digital innovation, enhancing efficiency, and fostering greater accessibility within the legal community. This significant development marks a new era of convenience and transparency for aspiring Notaries Public.”

The Supreme Court noted that the process, which was previously paper-driven, will now be faster, less burdensome, and more transparent.

The online platform, it added, has been designed to be user-friendly and to guide applicants through every stage of the process to ensure a seamless experience.
