Sowore Arraigned Over Alleged False Post Against President Tinubu

Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, was on Monday arraigned by the Federal Government on a five-count charge for allegedly posting false information about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, purportedly to cause a breakdown of law and order.

The charges, which also name social media platforms X (formerly Twitter) and Meta (Facebook) as co-defendants, relate to a post Sowore is alleged to have shared on his official X handle on August 25. In the post, he reportedly stated, “This criminal @ official PBAT actually went to Brazil to state that there is no more corruption under his regime in Nigeria. What audacity to lie shamelessly!”

The Federal Government claims the post contravened Section 24(2)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition and Prevention) Act 2024. The alleged offence is said to have occurred within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court.

Sowore is expected to respond to the charges as proceedings continue.

More details to follow.
