Owerri Markets Shut as Imo Rolls Out Red Carpet for Tinubu
The Imo State Government has ordered the closure of eight major markets in Owerri as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu prepares to visit the state on Tuesday.
Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Investment, Hon. Rex Anunobi, announced the directive, saying it is aimed at ensuring a grand reception for the president. Traders from the affected markets have been instructed to come out en masse to welcome Tinubu.
“The leadership of these markets must ensure full compliance. Business activities are to cease, and markets are to remain closed for the duration of the president’s visit,” Anunobi stated.
Markets affected include Imo Relief Market (Main, Green Roof, and Plaza), Imo Auto Market, Naze, Imo International Market (Alaba, Egbeada, and Naze clusters), Imo Timber and Allied Market, Imo Cluster Market (Hausa Section), and Imo Mechanic Village Market, Avu.
Anunobi urged market leaders to mobilize traders, describing the visit as an opportunity for the state to showcase hospitality and unity.
