Nigeria at 65: David Mark Demands Credible Leadership to End National Crisis
As Nigeria marks 65 years of independence, former Senate President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Chairman, Senator David Mark, has called for credible leadership to tackle the nation’s deepening challenges.
Mark described Nigeria as resilient but warned that insecurity, unemployment, inflation, food scarcity, and industrial decline threaten its future.
“Sixty-five years ago, we raised our flag and declared ourselves sovereign. That moment marked the beginning of our responsibility to build a nation worthy of our hopes. Today, while we reflect on our progress, we cannot ignore the storms still threatening our future,” he said.
He stressed the urgent need for stronger security, investment in technology, and welfare for personnel, alongside tackling the root causes of violence and poverty.
On the economy, Mark called for the revival of local industries, support for small and medium enterprises, and youth empowerment in technology, agriculture, and innovation. He also urged renewed investment in agriculture and fair distribution systems to strengthen food security.
“Unity and sacrifice—the spirit that won our independence—must guide us today. No nation is too broken to be rebuilt when its people are determined,” he said.
Mark encouraged Nigerians to view the ADC as a credible platform committed to democratic values. He urged citizens to learn from history and make informed choices in the 2027 elections, insisting that only visionary leadership can deliver Nigeria from its current crises.
