Nigeria @65: Atiku Blames APC for Hunger, Insecurity, and Suffering

Former Vice President lauds Nigerians’ resilience, calls 2027 elections a chance to reclaim the nation’s promise

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has lauded Nigerians for their patience and resilience in holding the country together despite severe socio-economic and security challenges.

In a statement released by his media office on Tuesday to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, Atiku expressed concern over the hardships endured by citizens under the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

He accused the ruling party of fostering a climate of despair, pointing to widespread insecurity, soaring food shortages, and mass unemployment.

“It is tragic that in a nation blessed with abundant human and natural resources, millions of our people have become refugees and beggars in their own land,” Atiku said.

“Every responsible government prioritizes the welfare and security of its citizens. Yet, this administration has abandoned its people. Hunger is killing Nigerians, bandits are attacking communities, and President Tinubu and his cabinet remain unmoved.”

Despite these challenges, Atiku urged Nigerians not to lose hope. He said the 2027 elections offer a chance for citizens to reject ineffective leadership and restore the nation’s promise.

“The beauty of democracy lies in the power of the ballot. Our people, oppressed and battered as they may feel today, will have the chance to hold this government accountable and sweep it away if they choose,” he said.

Atiku observed that, at 65, Nigeria remains a “giant on feet of clay,” attributing the nation’s slow progress to decades of poor leadership and mismanagement. He encouraged Nigerians to keep faith, insisting that with the right leadership, the country can rise from the ashes and reclaim its rightful place among the comity of nations.
