Governor Silent as Blood Flows: Kwara PDP Hits Out at AbdulRazaq

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has accused Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of failing to tackle the rising wave of bandit attacks, following Sunday’s deadly raid in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area, which left several residents and vigilantes dead.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the PDP described the attack as “a despicable and senseless act” and blamed the governor for what it called “monumental leadership failure.”

“The gruesome footage circulating online makes it appear that Kwara is at war. Under AbdulRahman’s watch, kidnappers roam freely, terror reigns, and rural communities are no longer safe,” the statement said.

The opposition party criticized the governor for his alleged silence and absence from the affected community, insisting that a responsible leader should have personally consoled victims’ families and assured the public of decisive action.

The PDP also accused AbdulRazaq of neglecting local vigilantes and security personnel who are battling criminals in the bush, while allegedly diverting funds to sports and entertainment projects outside the state.

The condemnation comes amid growing insecurity in Kwara North, where repeated attacks have forced residents to abandon farms, schools, and businesses.

On Sunday, gunmen stormed Oke-Ode at dawn, killing the Baale of Ogbayo and several vigilantes in a raid that shook the state.

A coalition of Nupe groups under the Nupe Descendants Union (NDU) also called for urgent intervention, urging the governor to reinforce security, improve intelligence gathering, and personally visit communities under siege.

“Our people live in fear and uncertainty. Lives and properties are wasted, farmlands abandoned, and commercial activities disrupted,” NDU President Alhaji Shuaibu Mohammed said during a press briefing in Ilorin.

The groups further linked the persistence of attacks to poor road networks in Kwara North, particularly along the Patigi–Gbugbu–Lafiagi–Tsaragi–Bacita axis, describing them as “death traps exploited by armed bandits.”

The Oke-Ode attack adds to a string of violent incidents in Edu, Patigi, Moro, and Ifelodun LGAs, including the murder of a pharmacist in Patigi, the closure of the International Gbugbu Market, and the killing of a young driver in Esanti village.
