Ambode Comeback Crusaders Urge APC to Back Former Lagos Governor in 2027

Ambode Comeback Crusaders Urge APC to Back Former Lagos Governor in 2027

A political advocacy group, Ambode Comeback Crusaders, has formally urged the National and Lagos State leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to support the return of former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in the 2027 governorship elections.

Ambode, who served as governor from 2015 to 2019, left office after losing the APC governorship ticket to the incumbent, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

In an open letter dated September 28, 2025, the group’s convener, Abiodun Fashola, praised Ambode’s leadership, highlighting key achievements in infrastructure, public transportation, and healthcare reforms. The letter also emphasised his sound financial management, which helped position Lagos as a leading economic hub both nationally and internationally.

“Ambode’s vision for Lagos continues to resonate with citizens, promoting inclusivity and sustainability,” Fashola said. He added that Ambode’s ability to engage stakeholders and listen to the populace is a core strength that underscores his commitment to good governance.

The letter appealed to APC leadership to consider the broader implications of endorsing Ambode for a second term, stressing that his proven track record aligns with the party’s goals for progress and development.

“By endorsing his return, we can harness his experience and dedication to propel Lagos into a new era of prosperity and innovation,” the letter stated.

Copies of the letter were also sent to notable political figures, including President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu, and former Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, among other stakeholders.

In August, Ambode dismissed claims linking him to a governorship ambition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), reaffirming his loyalty to the APC and President Tinubu.

“These reports are false publications aimed at distraction,” Ambode said. “I stand solidly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC. We will work together to ensure victory in 2027 and continue delivering the dividends of democracy to all Nigerians.”
