Amaewhule Gives Thanks After Surviving Kidnap, Assassination Attempts

From News Agency of Nigeria

The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, has attributed his survival from kidnap and assassination attempts to God’s mercies and protection.

Amaewhule spoke on Sunday during a thanksgiving service to mark his 52nd birthday at the All Saints Anglican Church, Eliozu, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Reflecting on past experiences, he said his life had been threatened on several occasions but God preserved him.

“I am not just marking another birthday but acknowledging that many people had planned to take my life in the last year, but God did not allow them,” he said.

The Speaker recalled a harrowing experience in 2008 when gunmen abducted him after a church service and held him hostage for five days in a forest.

According to him, the abductors tied up his security guard, inflicted injuries on him while moving him between hideouts, and fed him only biscuits throughout the period.

“Some of you were here in 2008 when a preacher was ministering. Unknown to me, those who came to kidnap me were also in the service. Afterward, they trailed me to my residence, abducted me, and subjected me to inhuman treatment,” he recounted.

Amaewhule expressed gratitude to God for his deliverance, guidance, and preservation over the years, stressing the need for thanksgiving.

“When God does things for you, it is important to appreciate Him more,” he added.
