PENGASSAN Orders Nationwide Strike, Halts Supply to Dangote Refinery

PENGASSAN Orders Nationwide Strike, Halts Supply to Dangote Refinery

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has announced a nationwide strike, directing all its members across offices, companies, institutions, and agencies to suspend services starting 12:01 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025.

The directive, issued after the Association’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Saturday, also calls on members in field operations—including control rooms, panel operations, and outfield personnel—to withdraw services from 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2025, and engage in a round-the-clock prayer vigil.

The Association described the prayers as a call for divine intervention to compel authorities to “rein in Dangote and his associates” to comply with Nigerian law.

PENGASSAN stressed that during the strike, no interventions would be entertained across field locations except for cases involving personnel or asset safety, which must receive clearance from the National Secretariat.

Further, the Association directed all Independent Oil Company (IOC) branches to immediately reduce gas production and suspend crude supply to Dangote Refinery and its petrochemical operations.

“All PENGASSAN members across all offices, companies, institutions, and agencies should withdraw all services effective 12:01 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025,” the statement said.

The union emphasized that prayers should seek divine courage for authorities to enforce the law, stressing, “No man is bigger than our country. An injury to one is an injury to all.”

The strike follows rising tensions over the sacking of Nigerian workers at Dangote Refinery, with the Association warning that these actions constitute a threat to national interest.
