NDLEA Nabs Lagos Drug Kingpins, Foils Supplies to Bandits in Borno, Yobe
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said on Sunday that it has arrested two suspected drug barons in Lagos and intercepted several consignments of illicit substances allegedly meant for terrorists and bandits in the Northeast.
The suspects, identified as Victor Nwosa (64) and Felix Chika Obiegbu (49), were arrested after weeks of surveillance by operatives of the agency’s Special Operations Unit (SOU). Cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine prepared for export to Europe were recovered from their homes in Okota and Surulere, Lagos.
Nwosa, who poses as a textile dealer, was apprehended on September 17 at his Femi Kila Street residence where 4.33kg of heroin and 448 grams of cocaine were found. Obiegbu, known locally as a wine distributor, was picked up at his Shada Shonefun Street residence on September 11 with 2.9kg of methamphetamine.
In Borno and Yobe, NDLEA operatives also blocked attempts to ferry drugs to criminal networks. One suspect, Baba Kaka Ibrahim (26), was arrested at Njimtilo village, Borno, with 39,380 opioid pills concealed in the engine compartment of a Mercedes Benz GLK. Similarly, Halima Adamu was caught along the Damaturu–Maiduguri road with 39 parcels of “Colorado” cannabis hidden in her luggage. A follow-up raid led to the arrest of her accomplice, Habiba Muhammad, in Maiduguri.
Across other states, multiple seizures were recorded:
Kano: Two suspects caught with 30,030 tramadol pills.
Bayelsa: Three arrested at Swali jetty with 12kg of cannabis and 50 cartridges.
Ekiti: An ex-convict, Femi Owoeye (aka Do Good), arrested with 32kg of cannabis and tramadol.
Kaduna: Over 262kg of cannabis seized at Abuja–Kaduna tollgate.
Edo: Over 24,000kg of cannabis farms destroyed in Uromi and Ogu forests; a truck ferrying 1,025kg of cannabis intercepted.
The agency also carried out sensitisation programmes under its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative in schools, communities, and worship centres across Oyo, Enugu, Katsina, Kano, Lagos, and Kogi.
NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said on Sunday in Abuja that the operations reaffirm the agency’s determination to rid the country of illicit drugs.
Quoting the agency’s Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), he stated:
“The success of these operations underscores our commitment to safeguarding Nigeria from illicit substances that threaten public health and national security. Every gram of dangerous drugs seized strengthens our resolve to protect our youths, disrupt criminal cartels, and secure the nation.”
