BREAKING: Terrorists kill 10 vigilantes, abduct 5 in Kwara community raid

At least 10 vigilantes, including forest guards, lost their lives on Sunday morning when terrorists stormed Oke-Ode community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The attackers, who came in large numbers, engaged the local security team in a fierce gun battle before overpowering them. Five others were abducted during the assault.

A video obtained by Patriotic Insights News showed the lifeless bodies of the vigilantes lying in pools of blood as distraught residents wept uncontrollably.

A community source blamed the withdrawal of soldiers from the area, saying: “We don’t know why Nigerian soldiers were withdrawn. We learnt that 10 persons were killed and five kidnapped. The situation is now terrible.”

Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, described the killings as “devastating beyond words.”

In a WhatsApp message, Ajakaye said: “This is sad. Devastating beyond words. Please be patient. It could have been worse without the effort of the forest guards. Three guards died, one was injured. Many of the attackers also died.”

The incident has heightened fears across Kwara communities already grappling with rising insecurity.

Just a day earlier, armed bandits invaded Tsaragi in Edu Local Government Area of the state and abducted a businessman, Suleiman Ndana, popularly known as “Manager.” Witnesses said the gunmen fired shots to disperse residents before heading straight to Ndana’s residence.

Sources confirmed that the businessman, who recently built a new fuel station in Yana Kokonna, was specifically targeted.
