Nigeria’s Political Elite Celebrate Amaechi’s Son’s Wedding in Abuja

The nation’s political and social elite converged on St. John’s Church in Abuja on Saturday to witness the union of Chikamkpa Amaechi, first son of former Minister of Transportation Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, and Anita Nwabueze.

The ceremony drew former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Sen. David Mark. Also in attendance were Mrs. Patience Jonathan, wife of the former President; Mrs. Dolapo Osibanjo, wife of the former Vice President; and former Plateau State Governor, Sen. Solomon Lalong.

Reverend Father Steve Dedua officiated the service, urging the couple to anchor their marriage in faith. He highlighted Nigeria’s worrying divorce statistics, citing a 2023 report by Archive Data which ranked the country 11th globally for marriage dissolutions. “Chikamkpa and Anita stand here today as a testament that commitment, patience, and God’s guidance can defy statistics,” he said.

At the reception, Governor Alex Otti advised the newlyweds on conflict resolution, emphasizing open dialogue and mutual respect as the foundation for a strong marriage. The couple had earlier celebrated their traditional wedding in Abuja last weekend.

The gathering was more than a family celebration; it became a showcase of Nigeria’s political and social landscape, with leaders from different spheres coming together to celebrate love, unity, and the ties that bind both family and nation.
