The Kwara State Police Command, in joint operations with operatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), and local vigilantes, has arrested suspected kidnappers and intercepted a major cannabis smuggling syndicate.
Police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said yesterday that operatives, acting on intelligence, stopped a vehicle along the Babanla–Oreke–Oke-Ode axis on September 26 at about 4pm. The truck, disguised as carrying yams, was discovered to have 127 bags of suspected cannabis hidden beneath. Two suspects Dan-Teni Haruna and Rabiu Ibrahim, both of Magama Local Government Area, Niger State were arrested.
In another operation, police operatives apprehended Mohammed Abubakar and Hussain, both of Tsaragi, alongside Tukur Ibrahim, a notorious kidnap suspect linked to the August 8 Babanla invasion. The suspects, according to the command, will be charged to court after investigations.
Kwara Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, lauded the synergy among security agencies and community vigilantes, warning criminals that the state will not serve as a safe haven.
