Ganduje Fires: Kwankwaso’s Defection to APC Would Be Madness

Former APC National Chairman and ex-Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has warned that if Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and his supporters return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), it would amount to “madness.”

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting of APC leaders in Kano on Thursday, the first since he left office, Ganduje dismissed rumours of Kwankwaso’s possible defection, describing the former governor’s politics as inconsistent.

“We have heard these rumours, but they are not serious. Kwankwaso once said only a madman would join APC. He even mocked President Tinubu during his campaign, claiming he only developed Lagos. Now they want to return. If they come, we will welcome them as madmen who swallowed their vomit,” Ganduje said, according to a BBC Hausa report monitored in Kaduna.

He, however, said reconciliation with Kwankwaso and former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau is not impossible, noting that their experience could guide the party if unity becomes necessary.

Ganduje also criticised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration, calling it “directionless” and accused it of mismanaging resources.

“When I assumed office, I never wasted time probing my predecessor. Governance is continuous. But Abba Yusuf began his tenure with probes. What have they achieved with the resources they’ve received in six months? Their government is clumsy, confused, and reckless, spending on projects with no value for money,” he said.

On his removal as APC National Chairman, Ganduje described it as part of political rotation and zoning, adding, “The President did not wrong me. Leadership is by God’s will; He gives it to whom He wants.”

He further dismissed claims that APC is shrinking, insisting that the party remains Nigeria’s largest political platform despite defections.

As of press time, neither Kwankwaso nor Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had responded to Ganduje’s remarks.
