Fubara Calls for Peace, Patriotism Ahead of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary
Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has urged Nigerians to embrace peace and unity as the nation marks its 65th Independence Anniversary.
Governor Fubara led prayers for the progress of Rivers State and the country during a Juma’at service at the Rivers State Central Mosque in Port Harcourt on Friday. He emphasized that national development remains unattainable without peace.
Represented by Alhaji Abdurrazaq Diepriye, Fubara appealed to citizens to remain patriotic, irrespective of religious or ethnic background. “Allah has brought us this far. Without peace, we cannot have progress and economic development,” he said.
The governor also commended President Bola Tinubu for restoring peace in Rivers State and applauded security agencies for their continued efforts to safeguard unity and stability.
The Chief Imam of the Central Mosque, Imam Ibrahim Yaloo, called on Muslims to uphold truth and righteousness, reminding worshippers that obedience to Allah leads to good deeds and forgiveness of sins.
Rivers State will also mark the Independence anniversary with an Inter-denominational Church Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, September 28, and a Parade Ceremony on Wednesday, October 1.
