FCT NSCDC Urges Tourism Stakeholders to Prioritise Security

 

 

 

The Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has called on tourism operators to make security a central focus to drive growth and investment in the sector.

 

Speaking in Abuja during the 2025 World Tourism Day celebration, themed “Tourism and Peace-Building Through Cultural Diplomacy,” Commandant Dr. Olusola Odumosu emphasised that sustainable tourism cannot thrive without adequate protection.

 

In a statement signed by NSCDC spokesperson Monica Ojobi on Friday, Odumosu noted that enhanced safety at tourism sites would encourage both local and international visitors, boosting economic activity. He stressed that major tourism destinations are classified as critical national assets due to their cultural and economic significance.

 

“There is no tourism without security. We are ready to collaborate with stakeholders to safeguard tourism sites and ensure Abuja remains a safe destination for all,” Odumosu said.

 

He urged tourism operators to not only market their services globally but also invest in robust security infrastructure to reassure visitors. The commandant further highlighted the importance of clearing criminal hideouts and protecting critical infrastructure in the FCT.

 

Odumosu also cited notable Nigerian tourism destinations, including Obudu Cattle Ranch, Kwa Falls, Yankari National Park, and Zuma Rock, stressing that proper packaging and promotion of these sites could significantly contribute to national development.

 

“Tourism has the power to bridge cultural divides, promote national values, and correct misconceptions about Nigeria’s security situation. Every nation faces security challenges; what matters is collective action to reshape the narrative,” he added.

 

World Tourism Day, observed annually on September 27, seeks to raise global awareness of tourism’s social, cultural, political, and economic significance.
