EFCC, Army tighten ranks against graft, terror financing

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has sought deeper collaboration with the Nigerian Army to curb economic crimes and terrorism financing linked to illegal mining.

Acting Zonal Director of EFCC, Kano Zonal Command, Deputy Commander Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, made the call during a courtesy visit to the Commander, 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General A. M. Tukur, at the Brigade Headquarters in Kano on Wednesday.

Sa’ad stressed the need for joint training and intelligence sharing to tackle emerging threats to national security and economic stability.

“Collaboration is key in the fight against economic and financial crimes. We are here to strengthen our relationship and explore new frontiers of cooperation, especially in the area of joint training for our personnel. Furthermore, we seek the Brigade’s support in intelligence sharing, particularly in tackling illegal mining whose proceeds often fuel terrorism,” he said.

Responding, Brigadier-General Tukur commended the EFCC for its role in safeguarding the nation’s economy and assured the Commission of the Army’s full support.

He called for reciprocal inclusion of Army officers in EFCC training and invited the Commission’s personnel to participate in the Brigade’s monthly fitness and training exercises for senior officers.
