APC: ADC Crumbling Under Defections, Contradictions

 

 

 

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying the opposition coalition is already falling apart under the weight of defections, mistrust and lack of ideology.

 

In a statement on Saturday, Lagos APC spokesman Seye Oladejo dismissed the ADC’s coalition project as a “travelling company of serial defectors” with no clear vision or leadership.

 

“The ADC’s so-called coalition is a house built on sand. What Nigerians are seeing is the natural consequence of opportunistic alliances formed to grab power, not to serve the people,” Oladejo said.

 

The comment followed the ADC National Caucus meeting in Abuja where leaders directed coalition partners — including members of the Labour Party (LP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and even APC — to quit their parties and register fully with ADC.

 

Among those named was former LP presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, who did not attend the session but reportedly sent apologies and pledged “commitment” to the project.

 

But APC dismissed the coalition drive as “political bigamy,” saying many supposed members were already reconsidering. Quoting Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, Oladejo described the situation as “confusion break bone.”

 

He insisted that recent by-election victories across the country confirmed voters’ faith in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stressing that while Tinubu is focused on reforms and development, the opposition is entangled in “greed, mistrust and contradictions.”

 

ADC’s publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, had maintained that the quit notice to coalition partners was final, though without a timeline.

 

Analysts say the coalition, which seeks to unite figures like Obi and disillusioned lawmakers, could pose a challenge in 2027 if it resolves its internal issues and clarifies its ideology.

 

Oladejo, however, declared that 2027 is about “consolidating Tinubu’s gains,” not ADC’s survival.

 

“The ADC’s implosion is no surprise. It is simply nature catching up with a party never destined to last,” he added.
