Benue Assembly Holds Valedictory Session for Late Audu Ogbeh

The Benue State House of Assembly yesterday held a special valedictory session in honour of Chief Audu Ogbeh, the first Deputy Speaker of the Assembly (1979–1982) and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Governor Hyacinth Alia, represented by his deputy, Dr. Sam Ode, described the late statesman as a visionary leader whose life reflected integrity, service and commitment to the nation.

“He was a workaholic and playwright who carried the name of Benue with pride. His legacy embodies dedication and vision. Chief Ogbeh embraced responsibilities and made a difference in public service, fighting for justice and progress,” Alia said.

Speaker Alfred Emberga praised Ogbeh’s legislative record, noting that his motions focused on the welfare and development of Benue people.

“Chief Ogbeh was a vocal, effective legislator and tireless advocate for his constituents. He served selflessly and left an enduring legacy that should inspire us,” Emberga said.

The former Minister of Agriculture, who died on August 9 at the age of 78, was remembered for his role in shaping Benue politics and for his later national contributions.

Dignitaries, including former Deputy Governor Chief Steven Lawani and past Assembly members, attended the session to pay their last respects and celebrate Ogbeh’s lifelong service.
