Tinubu Backs Constitutional Review, Calls It ‘Golden Opportunity’ for Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting constitutional reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

Speaking on Wednesday at the inauguration of a Public Hearing on the Review of the 1999 Constitution in Abuja, Tinubu described the exercise as pivotal to deepening governance and fostering national development.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the President referred to the review process as a “golden opportunity” to entrench good governance, inclusivity, and sustainable development.

“The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. It is not static but a living document that must continually respond to the realities, aspirations, and challenges of our people,” Tinubu said.

He commended the House of Representatives Committee on Constitution Review, chaired by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, for their dedication and noted that the exercise aligns with the objectives of his Renewed Hope Agenda.

The President further praised the committee for creating an inclusive platform that brings together citizens, civil society organizations, political parties, professional groups, and traditional institutions.
