Stop Propaganda, Allow Open Scrutiny, Kanu’s Counsel Challenges DSS
The legal team of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has dismissed as propaganda claims by the Department of State Services (DSS) that his health complaints are exaggerated.
Kanu’s lawyer, Onyedikachi Ifedi, Esq., in a statement yesterday, said the DSS was misrepresenting the true state of his client’s condition, insisting that he was not receiving the specialised care required.
He described a recent publication quoting unnamed DSS sources as “false and misleading,” arguing that the agency had resorted to half-truths to downplay Kanu’s health challenges.
“The facts are simple and indisputable: the DSS has been playing hide-and-seek with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s health,” Ifedi stated.
The lawyer alleged that the security agency introduced a doctor whose competence to handle life-threatening cardiovascular issues was questionable. He also queried the rationale behind allegedly flying his client’s blood samples to South Africa for analysis.
“If indeed the DSS has nothing to hide, why has it refused to release the full and unedited test results for the world to see?” he asked.
Ifedi maintained that the DSS lacked the expertise to manage conditions such as potassium depletion, aortic valve regurgitation, and congestive heart failure.
He challenged the agency to convene an open press conference where independent journalists and medical experts could interrogate its claims.
“The modus operandi of the DSS has always been to pressure doctors into presenting reports that align with the government’s preferred position—deceiving the courts into believing that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is well,” he alleged.
According to him, the judiciary in Abuja often sides with the DSS, a development he said had deepened bias against his client.
Reaffirming the legal team’s resolve, Ifedi vowed to pursue accountability both at home and abroad.
“The health and life of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu are not matters to be trivialised. We will continue to expose every falsehood and hold the DSS accountable before Nigerians and the international community,” he said.
