Osun JUSUN Maintains Indefinite Strike, Counters Three-Day Warning Claim

Osun State chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has insisted that its industrial action remains indefinite, rejecting claims that it was merely a three-day warning strike.

In a statement on Thursday, the union’s chairman, Comrade Idris Adeniran, described such reports as “false and baseless,” warning that they were intended to undermine the union’s legitimate demands.

The industrial action, which commenced on Monday, September 22, arises from unresolved grievances over delayed promotions and inadequate welfare packages for judicial staff. The move followed a communiqué issued on September 19 after an extraordinary congress of the union.

Adeniran accused the Osun State Judicial Service Commission, headed by Chief Judge Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo, of failing to engage meaningfully with the union despite repeated correspondence and ultimatums.

He stated: “Let me be clear: our strike action remains indefinite, and we stand unwavering in our commitment to realising our demands. We will not be deterred by attempts to weaken our resolve or undermine our unity.”

The JUSUN chairman urged members of the union, legal practitioners, and the public to disregard misinformation while calling for vigilance and solidarity. To reinforce their unity, the State Executive Council of JUSUN called on all judiciary staff to participate in a demonstration at the Osun State Judiciary headquarters, High Court Gate, on Thursday morning.

“Our demands are legitimate, reasonable, and long overdue,” Adeniran said. “They focus on timely and merit-based promotions, as well as the improvement of welfare conditions, including benefits and general well-being. We will persist until our rights are fully recognised by Honourable Justice Adepele Ojo.”
