Ogun Govt Insists on Quality Roads, Dismisses Allegations of Interference in Daniel’s Project

Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering durable and high-standard roads across the state, dismissing claims that it is politicising the Paddy Arikawe Oye-Igbimo Road project in Sagamu, sponsored by Senator Gbenga Daniel of Ogun East Senatorial District.

Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Media and Strategy, stated on Wednesday that the government will not compromise on technical quality or allow substandard work under any circumstances. He stressed that the specifications required from Minim and Tonye Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling the project, are standard requirements applied to all state road initiatives to safeguard public safety.

According to Akinmade, the contractor submitted project drawings that failed to meet Federal Ministry of Works (FMW) standards. A letter dated September 22, 2025, was issued to the contractor, requesting revisions and re-submission for approval.

He noted that the contractor intended to construct only 300 metres of the 3,000-metre road—a mere 10% of the total stretch—while the Ministry of Works had already carried out preliminary palliative work, with final design for the entire road nearing completion.

“The directive by the Ogun State Ministry of Works is not interference in a federal initiative, as some allege, but a constitutional responsibility to protect the interests of the people of Ogun State,” the statement said.

Akinmade questioned the involvement of the Presidency in what he described as technical shortcomings in a contractor’s proposal, describing attempts by Senator Daniel’s media team to politicise the matter as a distraction from the core issues.

He added, “How can adherence to higher-grade concrete, reinforced stone bases, and full compliance with Federal Ministry of Works standards be considered political unless driven by ulterior motives? The Ogun State Government remains committed to transparency, accountability, and long-lasting infrastructure development.”

The statement concluded that the government prioritises quality over propaganda and will ensure that residents benefit from roads that meet the highest standards, not short-term political interests.
