NSCDC Nabs 19 Suspected Vandals in Kano
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested 19 suspected vandals in separate operations across the state for allegedly tampering with national assets and public infrastructure.
The state commandant of the corps, Mr. Bala Bawa-Bodinga, disclosed this on Wednesday during the parade of the suspects at the NSCDC headquarters in Kano.
Bawa-Bodinga said the arrests were the result of sustained intelligence-led operations aimed at curbing acts of vandalism and other criminal activities targeting vital installations.
“The suspects were apprehended in Madobi, Tudunwada, Gwale, Minjibir, and Kumbotso Local Government Areas while engaging in unlawful activities, including tampering with electrical installations, communication cables, drainage slabs, illegal substances, and other public utilities,” he explained.
Items recovered from the suspects included rolls of aluminium and armoured cables, 6.1kg of transformer cables, two rolls of suck-and-die, a short spear, rubber solution, a motorcycle, a broken soldering iron, five shovels, five diggers, and a knife.
Describing the acts as economic sabotage that endangers lives and hampers development, Bawa-Bodinga assured that the NSCDC would continue to safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure.
“We will strengthen intelligence gathering, intensify patrols, and collaborate with sister security agencies, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, and the media to ensure the protection of lives and property,” he said.
The commandant added that the suspects had been profiled and investigated, and would be charged to court to serve as a deterrent to others. He also urged residents to support security efforts by providing timely and useful information.
