Kwara Council Approves Multi-Billion Naira Contracts in Roads, Education and Sports

 

The Kwara State Government has approved a series of multi-billion naira infrastructure projects across the education, transport and sports sectors, signalling a renewed commitment to inclusive development and human capital growth.

 

At its meeting on Thursday, the State Executive Council sanctioned the construction of key roads in the southern part of the state, as well as a four-storey administrative and senate building for the Kwara State University of Education (KWSUED), part of the broader Kwara Smart City initiative.

 

The university project was awarded to M C & T Limited at a cost of N11.9 billion for completion within 15 months. Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr Segun Ogunsola, stated that the building would accommodate the Senate and Council Chambers, conference rooms, offices for principal officers, and administrative units including Finance, Registry, Student Affairs, Examination, and Records.

 

In the road sector, the 15-kilometre Ojoku–Ilemona Bye-Pass in Oyun Local Government Area was approved to connect communities along its corridor to the 49-kilometre Afon–Ojoku–Offa–Odo Otin highway. The project, awarded to Construction Products Nigeria Ltd., is valued at N6.4 billion with a delivery period of 19 months.

 

Similarly, the council cleared the N2 billion Alabe–Oreke Road in Ifelodun Local Government, linking agrarian communities in the rocky Ifelodun–Isin corridor. Commissioner for Works, Engr Abdulquawiy Olododo, noted that Wallyson Ventures would complete the 12-month project, enhancing accessibility and economic opportunities for local residents.

 

Additionally, contractors have been mobilised to commence rehabilitation of the Offa and Lafiagi stadia, which have remained idle for several years. The upgrades are expected to provide standard sporting facilities and expand public access to recreation across the state.

 

Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, said the approvals reflect Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s strategic focus on expanding infrastructure, promoting human capital, and reinforcing a sustainable development agenda for Kwara State.
