FRSC marshal canvasses arms for personnel to strengthen enforcement

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has said arming the corps would enhance its ability to enforce traffic regulations and ensure greater road safety across the country.

Speaking in an interview with Arise Television yesterday, Mohammed explained that the current limitations of the corps hinder effective enforcement, particularly when dealing with heavy-duty trucks and trailers carrying passengers and livestock.

“It is difficult for the FRSC to stop a trailer or truck on the road, especially those carrying a lot of passengers at the top with animals, and the FRSC only has four men as a team. Carrying arms will support the personnel to stop trailers with a lot of passengers. Power is cohesion. If you don’t have the power to enforce anything, there’s no way you can achieve that enforcement,” he said.

On the issue of bribery within the corps, Mohammed said the trend would be addressed in due course, stressing: “It’s a matter of time. It will be nipped in the bud.”
