Cross River Under Otu’s Leadership, State Struggles Despite Resources – PDP

The Cross River State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has faulted Governor Bassey Otu’s administration for what it described as misplaced priorities, alleging that the state continues to lag in development despite abundant resources.

Speaking with newsmen in Calabar on Tuesday, PDP State Chairman, Barrister Venatius Ikem, said the governor’s focus on non-essential projects has left critical sectors underdeveloped.

Ikem said, “When the PDP was in power, infrastructure development was a priority. Efforts to diversify the economy were evident, and the benefits were visible. Today, under the current administration, almost nothing happens across the state. This is disheartening, especially given the humongous resources available.”

He further accused Governor Otu of lacking vision and failing to deliver democratic dividends, noting that the control of local government funds has not translated into tangible development at the grassroots level.

“They captured the local government funds, yet nothing is happening at the grassroots. Our people are asking why, but the administration offers no answers,” Ikem added.

The PDP chairman also criticized the governor for failing to account for intervention funds, stressing that the state remains underdeveloped despite significant allocations to the government.
