ADC Abandons ADA, Demands Obi, Coalition Partners Leave LP, APC, PDP
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally abandoned the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) and directed its coalition partners, including former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi, to resign from their current political parties and fully commit to the ADC.
Obi, who did not attend Thursday’s National Caucus meeting in Abuja, sent his apologies but reportedly reaffirmed his commitment to the coalition. The party is also reportedly engaging lawmakers and high-profile politicians from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for potential defections.
ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the “quit notice” to coalition partners as final but did not specify a deadline for compliance.
Presided over by ADC National Chairman, David Mark, the caucus also resolved to terminate all association with ADA. The coalition had initially sought to register ADA with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a political platform for the 2027 elections, but the group decided to consolidate its efforts under the ADC.
“The coalition has rested all matters concerning ADA. They are no longer pursuing its registration or related activities,” Abdullahi said.
All ADC presidential aspirants at the meeting reiterated their commitment to support whoever ultimately wins the party’s ticket. The ADC National Working Committee (NWC) is expected to announce dates for the nomination of candidates for the off-cycle governorship elections in Osun and Ekiti states.
Those present at the meeting included David Mark, ADC National Secretary Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, former Kaduna Governor Nasir el-Rufai, former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and Bolaji Abdullahi.
