Osun, Borno Top Voter Registration as INEC Releases Week Five Update

As preparations for the 2027 general elections gain momentum, Osun State continues to lead in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, recording 678,904 eligible voters on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal at the close of week five.

INEC disclosed that a total of 5,385,060 Nigerians have so far pre-registered online. Of this number, 2,585,216 (48.1%) are male, while 2,799,844 (51.9%) are female. Young Nigerians aged 18 to 34 account for 3,604,668 registrants, while Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) make up 114,713 of the total.

Fresh statistics show that Borno State has overtaken Lagos to claim second place with 561,666 registrants, while Lagos ranks third with 530,180, followed by Ogun State with 427,455.

Despite strong participation in several states across different zones, the South East continues to lag behind. Imo State leads the region with 63,306 registrants, while Anambra State has yet to resume the exercise, having concluded its CVR in July ahead of its November governorship election. INEC confirmed that registration in Anambra will restart after the polls.

A zonal breakdown shows that the South West leads with 1,838,656 pre-registered voters, followed by the North West with 1,295,747. The North East records 991,314, North Central 875,948, South-South 280,904, and South East 76,493.

Pre-registered voters are required to visit designated registration centres to complete the exercise through data capturing. At the time of reporting, INEC had not released statistics for in-person registrations completed.
