IGP Egbetokun Disburses ₦2.17B to Families of Fallen Police Officers

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has presented cheques totaling ₦2.17 billion to 1,574 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased police officers under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes. The ceremony took place today at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The disbursement, which covers policy years 2015 to 2025, included long-outstanding claims that had been pending for almost a decade. This phase marks the 11th disbursement under IGP Egbetokun’s administration, bringing the total support to over ₦24.2 billion for 9,735 families of fallen officers.

Speaking at the event, IGP Egbetokun said, “This exercise is a solemn duty of remembrance and responsibility. The welfare of our officers, serving, retired, or deceased, remains a cardinal priority of my administration. We are redesigning the welfare system to be stronger, transparent, and fully digitized to ensure prompt payment of entitlements.”

He commended the Force Insurance Unit for their diligence, the insurance companies for meeting their obligations, and the Ministry of Police Affairs for its guidance. He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, “for his unwavering support for police welfare initiatives.”

CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, described the disbursement as “a major milestone in ensuring that families of fallen officers are adequately supported, even for claims that had been delayed for years.”

The presentation ceremony was attended by members of the Force Management Team, insurance stakeholders, and the beneficiaries.
