Osun Education in Crisis: Integrity Group Accuses Adeleke of Neglect

The Osun State Chapter of the Integrity Group of Nigeria has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of gross negligence in the education sector, warning that the state risks producing poorly educated students if urgent action is not taken.

In a statement signed by the group’s State Chairman, Comrade Salam Mustapha, and made available by its Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ismail Alade Iwa, the group condemned the governor for failing to recruit teachers nearly three years into his tenure.

The group noted that Governor Adeleke reportedly dismissed 1,500 teachers employed under the administration of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, without instituting replacements, worsening the manpower shortage in public schools across the state.

“The Adeleke-led administration appears insensitive to the plight of teachers and the future of Osun children. After almost three years in office, not a single teacher has been recruited. Worse still, existing teachers are being transferred arbitrarily to remote areas, disregarding their welfare and family obligations,” the statement said.

The Integrity Group further criticized the government’s alleged “give and take” approach, alleging that purported salary increments are effectively nullified by forcing teachers to bear excessive transport costs due to harsh transfer postings. “You cannot give with one hand and take with the other,” the group said.

The group urged Governor Adeleke to immediately halt policies that overburden teachers, recruit qualified personnel, and restore dignity to the public education sector. Failure to act, the group warned, could have long-term consequences for the development of Osun State.
