Okpebholo names Omonzejie as AAU’s new Vice Chancellor
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Professor Eunice Omonzejie as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was announced yesterday in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Ikhilo.
Ikhilo said Omonzejie emerged from a list of three candidates recommended by the university’s governing council.
Omonzejie, a professor of French and Francophone African Literatures, has had a distinguished career at the Department of Modern Languages, AAU. Her scholarly work spans African and Francophone literary studies, gender discourse and cultural studies.
She has held several leadership roles, including serving as president of the AAU chapter of the National Association of Women Academics (NAWACS), where she promoted mentorship, advanced research programmes, and pushed advocacy for women in academia.
The new VC has published widely. She co-edited French Language in Nigeria: Essays in Honour of UFTAN Pacesetters and Language Matters in Contemporary West Africa. She is also the author of Women Novelists in Francophone Black Africa: Views, Reviews and Interviews.
The state government described her appointment as a recognition of her academic excellence, leadership qualities and commitment to the university’s progress.
Governor Okpebholo congratulated Omonzejie and urged her to deploy her experience to drive innovation, strengthen research, and sustain AAU’s mission of producing globally competitive graduates.
