Fresh Terror Attacks in Kwara: Pregnant Woman Killed, 18 Abducted, Cattle Stolen

Communities in Kwara State have once again suffered violent attacks as armed bandits killed a pregnant woman, abducted at least 18 residents, and stole dozens of cattle in coordinated raids across multiple villages.

The latest attacks occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when over 40 gunmen on motorcycles stormed Motokun village in Patigi Local Government Area, shooting indiscriminately and forcing residents to flee for their lives.

A resident who witnessed the attack told Patriotic Insight News that the assailants, heavily armed with sophisticated weapons, operated with shocking audacity.

“They came in large numbers on motorcycles, firing sporadically. A pregnant woman was killed instantly, and several people were abducted. Everyone was terrified,” the resident said.

Sources confirmed that eight residents were kidnapped in Motokun, while another group of gunmen attacked Fanagun village in Tsaragi Emirate, abducting three Fulani men and stealing a number of cattle, further worsening the economic hardship of these communities.

Villagers lamented the apparent absence of security operatives during the hours-long attacks.

This wave of violence follows a report by SaharaReporters on Monday, detailing the abduction of a woman and a 16-year-old girl during a midnight raid in Maganiko Ndanangi, Lafiagi Emirate, Edu Local Government Area.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attackers fired shots into the air before abducting Aisha, a married woman known as Gogo, and Amina, a 16-year-old girl.

Hours before Tuesday’s attacks, the Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Mohammed Kudu Kawu, faced accusations of deploying palace-backed security operatives to stop youths from protesting against the rising wave of terror in the community.

The incidents underscore the urgent need for strengthened security measures to protect vulnerable communities and curb the growing menace of armed banditry in Kwara State.
