Ekiti Governor Approves N596.6m Car and Housing Loans for School Workers

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has sanctioned the disbursement of N596.6 million as car and housing loans to 807 teaching and non-teaching staff in the state’s public secondary schools.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, Michael Boluwade, disclosed this in a statement in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, saying the move was aimed at improving staff welfare and boosting morale.

According to Boluwade, “Out of the total amount approved, N381.5 million will be disbursed as car loans to 382 beneficiaries, while N215.1 million will be released as housing loans to 425 beneficiaries. The loans reflect the 100 per cent rate increase recently approved by the governor and will be paid to qualified personnel of the commission.”

He urged beneficiaries to utilise the funds for their intended purposes, noting that repayments would be made through direct deductions from their monthly salaries.

Governor Oyebanji had previously highlighted several initiatives during the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration, including the disbursement of N400 million in house and vehicle loans to over 1,447 school staff, recruitment of 930 secondary school teachers, employment of over 1,500 primary school teachers and 48 education officers, and approval of career progression for primary school teachers to grade level 16.

Other measures listed by the governor included infrastructure upgrades, staff capacity development programmes, and the implementation of the minimum wage.

The Permanent Secretary thanked the governor for approving additional funds to complement the revolving fund of the commission’s Loans Board, which enabled the new rates of loan disbursement.
