Ekiti 2026: Oyebanji Confident of APC Victory Ahead of Primaries
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed unwavering confidence in the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to conduct a credible governorship primary and ensure the party’s victory in the 2026 elections.
Oyebanji made this remark shortly after appearing before the APC Screening Committee, chaired by Tunji Olawuyi, in Abuja on Tuesday. The committee is tasked with screening the four aspirants seeking the party’s governorship ticket: Governor Oyebanji, Kayode Ojo, Abimbola Olajumoke Olawunmi, and Atinuke Omolayo Oluremi.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Ekiti State governorship election for July 20, 2026, while the APC will conduct its primary on Monday, October 27, 2025.
Speaking to journalists after the screening exercise, Oyebanji praised the APC for establishing a transparent screening structure and called on the party’s national leadership to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants.
“I have confidence in the ability of the committee that will conduct the Ekiti APC governorship primary election to do an excellent job in line with party guidelines. This is only the screening stage. Next comes the appeal committee, the Congress committee, and then the election proper. Whoever emerges must be supported because it is not just about the aspirants; it is about returning our party to power and serving the people,” he said.
Oyebanji, the first aspirant to undergo screening, arrived at the Amor Hotel in Abuja’s Katampe area at about 10:00 a.m. His credentials were reviewed in a session lasting approximately 15 minutes.
Several party leaders and political associates accompanied him to the screening venue, including Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Senator Cyril Fasuyi, Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, and other notable personalities.
Meanwhile, aspirant Atinuke Omolayo Oluremi expressed her readiness to step aside for Governor Oyebanji. Speaking after her screening, she said, “I will only step down for the governor, His Excellency Abayomi Oyebanji. He is my leader. Any other person, no way. Since the creation of Ekiti State, there has never been a female governor. I want to be the first, and by the grace of God, it will happen. But I respect the governor and his achievements.”
Omolayo also highlighted the importance of women’s participation in politics, urging women to actively vote and engage in the electoral process.
