Nigerian Army Trains Warrant Officers on AI to Boost Operational Efficiency

The Nigerian Army has emphasised the growing importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing military operations, particularly at the junior command level, as the nation continues to face complex security challenges.

Major General Ahmadu Mohammed, Commandant of the Nigerian Army Depot, made the remark during the opening of a leadership and management seminar for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers at the Warrant Officers’ Academy, Kaduna.

The two-week seminar will bring together senior non-commissioned officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force for intensive training aimed at bridging the gap between commissioned officers and enlisted personnel. Participants of Warrant Officers’ Academy Course 46 will receive focused instruction on leadership development, management skills, and the strategic use of AI in operational decision-making.

Major General Mohammed described leadership as the “bedrock of the Nigerian Army,” stressing that decisions taken at all levels—high or low—have a direct impact on the effectiveness of units. He warned that weak leadership at the junior level could compromise entire battalions, regiments, and formations, underscoring the importance of AI in promoting professionalism and operational efficiency.

With the theme, “Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Enhanced Operational Effectiveness: Leadership Imperative for a Modern Military,” the seminar offers participants a platform to share experiences, exchange knowledge, and learn lessons from real-life operational scenarios.
